Charles Stephen Girdley better known as Steve Girdley passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born in DeRossette, Tennessee on January 22, 1945, he was the son of the late Charles (June) Girdley and Carlene Stephens Girdley.
Steve served in the U.S. ARMY from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. During his service he was awarded The National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Metal and Sharp Shooter Badge. He graduated from White County High School in 1963 and while in high school played quarterback on the football team. He attended MTSU for 2 years.
Steve loved his family, especially his grandson Macon (the light of his life). He had a love for 4-wheeling, and he was Macon's number one fan during his baseball and basketball games.
Preceded in death by his parents, and his uncle Bill Jones and wife Donna Carrick Girdley.
He was survived by his wife of 34 years, Rhonda Kinnaird Girdley; son, Will Girdley (Christy Girdley); grandson, Macon Girdley all of Sparta; brother, Keith Gridley and (Louise Girdley); aunt Nina Jones; mother-in-law, Bonnie Kinnaird; brother -in-law, Alan Kinnaird; nieces, Kourtney Kinnaird, Tina Girdley-Russell and (Phil Russell), Denise Colwell and (Barry Colwell); great nephews, Morgan Scott, Drew Scott and many friends.
ARRANGEMENTS
Memorial services will be at West Sparta Church of Christ, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 7 P.M.
with burial will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10 A.M. at the O'Connor Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation will be at West Sparta Church of Christ, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 2 P.M. till service at 7 P.M.
Pallbearers, Bucky Floyd, Charles Dycus, David England, Alan Kinnaird, Merrill Howard and Jeff Glass; Honorary Pallbearers, The Sparta Sox Baseball Team; Dyson Reece, Holden Howard, Jack Humphrey, David Smith, Eli McDonald, Hayden Farris, Jacob Sparks, Drew Young, Jason Maxwell,, Maverick Jennings, Cameron Beasley, Isaac Hall and Malachi Jared.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations can be made toward funeral/health expenses, donations to the DaVita Dialysis Center or Happy Haven Home for Children.
