Stella Martin

Stella Marie Martin passed away in her home in Shelby Twp. on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the age of 59. She was surrounded by the love of those she held dear.

Stella was born to parents Herman and Treva (Mabe) Cantrell on September 5, 1959 in Sparta, Tennessee. She moved to Michigan, graduated from high school in Warren and attended college. Stella worked at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital for 20 years. She was also a wonderful homemaker and loving mother. She made the most of retirement and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

In her free time she loved the outdoors. Stella could often be found camping, running, biking, kayaking, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, ATV riding and golfing. She was proud to complete numerous 5 and 10k races. Her love for life and personality were contagious. She worked hard, played hard and loved to the fullest. She was an avid Detroit sports fan and often a season ticket holder. She cheered them on even when they were terrible. Dancing and singing along at concerts was another joy of hers. But most of all she loved being a mom and grandma. Her hugs and snuggles were the best according to her grandkids Robert, Travis and Stella. It is what they will miss most about their favorite person.

Stella was beautiful in endless ways. She always looked amazing and her house was immaculate inside and out. You would find her home adorned with flowers and filled with an endless supply of snacks for the kids. She never thought twice about opening her home to others and being there when you needed her. You could always count on her to speak her mind and tell you the truth (even when you didn’t want to hear it). She was truly a unique and valued person to many.

Stella was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2015 but never let it slow her down. She continued to enjoy life to the fullest including traveling all over North America. After years of dreaming she even learned to quilt and made many friends at the retreats she attended along the way. Her drive for life kept her strong, determined and was an inspiration to many.

Stella is preceded in death by her mother. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Amanda Mezuk (David), James Martin and Kevin McCuen as well as her father, stepmother, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many others who found her light to be a shining star.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Stella’s 60th birthday on September 5, 2019 at Aspen Restaurant 20333 Hall Road, Macomb MI 48044 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM (food served from 6:00-7:30).
