Samuel (Sam) Chaney

October 18, 1939 — March 28, 2021

Samuel (Sam) Lee Chaney, age 81 passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. Sam was born to YZ and Flossie Jones Chaney in Henning, TN. Sam attended Lauderdale High School in Ripley, Tn. for his basic studies. Sam met the one and only Margie while he was working construction with the railroad system. They were married for 50 plus years. Sam would often tell his family that, “Granny robbed the cradle “due to the age difference and give that bashful smile.  Sam worked at Thomas Industries and retired after 40 years with the company. Sam also had a lawn mowing business that he would faithfully attend to after working a full day at Thomas Industries.  Sam did not slow down after retirement and continued his lawn business up until his death. Sam was known for his work ethic and the fact that he never slowed down. Sam Chaney was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.  Sam loved his family unconditionally, and it showed every day.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Chaney; parents, YZ and Flossie Chaney; sons, Samuel Lee Chaney Jr., and Willard Lowery; daughter, Diane Hogan; grandson, Curron Lowery.

He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Glimps; siblings, Carrie Sue Moore, Clarence L. Chaney, Gloria Jean (Joseph) Buford, Frances Melinda Moore, Nerissa Debra (Byron) Harvey; grandchildren, Saxton Lowery, Isha and Lori Chaney and Cassandra Nicole Peppers; great grandchildren, Curronica Lowery, Mahayla and Thomarius Simmons, Hali and Chris Howard and Hillary and Blake Huddleston; Ahralyn Peppers, great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
