Opal Bernice Simmons,94, of Blue Springs Community. Passed away in St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta, TN on Sunday December 31, 2017.
She was born April 20, 1923 in White County to Casto Selby and Lona Bell Robinson Selby. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Haskell Ray Simmons; brothers, James, Leonard, J.D, and Bill Selby; sisters, Daisy Selby, Velma Hickey and Bonnie McGowan.
She is survived by one son Thomas (Linda) Simmons; one daughter, Margaret (James) Eller; grandchildren, Jessica (Randy) Paul, Ray (Angela) Simmons, Regina Simmons, Leah (David) McRae. Adopted Granddaughter, Rachel Patrick; Great Grandchildren, LeAnna Thomas, Jessalyn Paul, Jacob (Whitney) Simmons, Josh Simmons, Ashley (Drew) Brown, Allison Denton, Keifer Notgrass, Bryana Simmons; Great Great Grandchildren, Layla Simmons, Mallory Simmons, Kolton Denton, Brooklyn Denton, Emily Notgrass, Ayden Roark, Jackson Simmons, Kamde Brown; Sisters, Retha Maxwell, Norma (Ralph) Tucker both of Sparta, Donna (Vernon) Lee of Alabama; brother, Noble (Bertha) Selby of Sparta and sister-in-law Edna Selby of Sparta.
Pall bearers: Ray Simmons, Josh Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Randy Paul, Vernon (Buddy) Lee, David McRae, Drew Brown, and Chris Smith.
She will be missed by a host of friends and family. She was retired from Red Kapp.
ARRANGMENTS
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home Bro. Danny Lane and Bro. Freddie Copland interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
