Mrs. Norma Lucile Hall Hay, age 90 passed July 27, 2010, at her residence in Sparta, Tennessee.
Mrs. Hay was born to Luther A. Hall and Lela May Fredrick Hall on October 4, 1919, in Pulaski, KY.
Mrs. Hay served our country as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army Nurse Corp and was stationed continental USA followed by service in England during WWII.
Norma was a loving mother and is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law: Gilbert Hay III of Sparta, TN; Robert Gwynn Hay and wife Becky of Pelham, AL. A sister, June (Eva) Hobbs of West Carrolton, OH, and a brother, Herschel Hall of Alexandria, KY, along with numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Hay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a loving husband of 40 years Gilbert Hay Jr. and sisters Maude Rebecca Bollinger and Ruby Hermesch.
After her army service, Mrs. Hay's continued nursing career brought her to Hawaii where she met and wedded Gilbert Hay, Jr. Several years later they, with two sons, returned to Ohio where she continued nursing and later moved to Illinois where she did the same. After retiring, Norma utilized her training as a volunteer in a skilled care facility in Wauconda, IL. Norma enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US as well as numerous countries world wide. During her residence in Sparta, Mrs. Hay was active with Friends of the Library, Christmas-In-April, and UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy).
Family will receive friends at Thurman Funeral Home, on Sunday, August 8, 2010, from 3 PM till 5 PM.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM eastern time, on Monday, August 9, 2010, at in Rockwood, TN. Officiating will be Bro. Dennis Wood.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, TN. Thurman Funeral Home of Sparta, TN is in charge of the arrangements. Please sign the guestbook at www.thurmanfuneral.com
