Hollis Phifer

Hollis Edward Phifer, age 97 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Hollis was born February 16, 1920 to Clarence and Myrtle (Guy) Phifer.

Hollis was an incredible person who will be greatly missed. He lived to age 97 and still had his quick wit and loving nature up until the end. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy during WWII. He was always singing, whistling a tune, playing an instrument, dancing or telling a joke. His home was always full of love and warmth. This has been a great loss to all who knew him and we will cherish and celebrate our loving memories forever.

Survivors include his beloved wife Katherine (Katey), sons Hollis Jr., Ronald (Denise), Daniel; daughters Pamela (Nicholas) Atsalakis, Linda (Edward Perez) DeVries, Eileen (Donn) Vanderbeke; step-daughter Stephanie (James) Little; sisters Merilyn (Larry) Denty, Johnny Hudson (Norman Calbow); grandchildren Judith, Rhonda, Ronald, Lynn, Daniel, Ben, Paul, Lauren, Michael, Matthew, Phillip and Meghan; ten great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS:

Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Brothers Perry Clayton, Tracy Curtis and Jonathan Savage officiating. Internment will follow at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at Thurman Funeral Home, Friday, May 12, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Contributions may be made to Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church.
