Grace Anita Mitchell Billings

Grace Mitchell Billings, Age 97, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 19, 2025 in Athens, GA. 

She was born on October 1, 1927 in Sparta, TN to the late WWI Veteran Elmo Mitchell and Gertrude White Mitchell.

Most of her life she lived on Lost Creek Road where she was born. As a young woman, she taught all 8 grades in a Dodson School. Young family members remember how she would enthusiastically follow their lives - saving their school photos and clipping newspaper articles about them. Her family believes she lived such a long, healthy life because, into their eighties, she and her husband grew their own food. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Orvel Jack Billings; parents; sister, Bernice Mitchell Vance (Clyde Vance); nephews, C.B. Vance and Ralph Vance.

Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Ann Jensen; a niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and their children.

Arrangements:

Visitation will be Saturday January 25, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. at Thurman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday January 25, 2025 starting at 2:00 pm at Thurman Funeral Home. Interment at Lost Creek Cemetery.
