Cora B. Stockton Buff, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, after a long illness with cancer at her home in Sparta, formerly of Cookeville.
Cora was the daughter of Marshall Hodges Stockton and Ella Pervus Wilmoth Stockton, which she was born in Putnam County in a log home.
She grew up as a farm girl with hard work, with her parents, two sisters and brother along her side. As time passed by she met a young man from North Carolina through her double first cousin husband that had moved to Detroit to work at Dodge Main, which Billy Ray Buff had also move for work. He always want to marry a southern lady. So he made a visit with Earl Maxell to the Stockton's Farm. After meeting Cora it was love at first sight. They wrote letters for six months and were married October 31, 1953. He taught her to drive in the big city and she got a job at Michigan Bell Phone Co. for five years and as times changed. They both decided to move back to the country in Tennessee. Cora got a job with General Telephone Company (GTE) and later changed to Frontier Communications. She retired from GTE after 30 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. But let's don't forget she would not be called a grandmother she was know as Mother Cora. She enjoyed cooking, art Oil Painting, sewing , flowers, working outside and traveling.
Cora was the life of the party for those that knew her she was very out spoken. You always knew where you stood with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant child.
She was survived by her husband of 60 years Billy Ray Buff; daughter, Felecia Rose Buff Buck both of Sparta; two grandsons, James Christopher Buck III and wife Sharron of Fort Campbell , KY and William (Billy) Ray Buff Buck of Sparta; great grandson, Jackson Tyler Buck; great granddaughter, to born June 2014 Mackenzie Taylor Buck; sisters and brother in laws; Bonnie Thrasher and late Arthur and Rozelle Bush and James; brother and sister in law; Ensor Stockton and Nelda all of Cookeville. Her extended family Jennifer and Steve Sampley, Sandy and Sam Groce, Chris Groce, Virginia Cantrell, prime time family and church family. Also a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS
The family will receive friends at Central Church of Christ across the street from Thurman Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, from 3:00 P.M. until time for the service at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral service will be at Central Church of Christ across the street from Thurman Funeral Home, on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. Bro. Roy Whited and Bro. Sam Mainord will officiate . Interment will be private at the Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make donation to the Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society or Happy Haven.
