Burgess Lesel "B.J." Johnson, age 87, He passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, TN.
He was born November 28, 1928 to Lesel H. and Annie Mae Johnson in Sparta, TN.
He at age 19 move to Detroit, MI. worked for General Motors. He was approved to enter into the Engineer program with GM. He worked in the tool and Die department while earning his Engineer Degree through GM. After retiring with GM he moved to GA and started an Asphalt Paving Co. Then moving back to Sparta, TN he purchased the Local Rock Quarry and started a Asphalt Paving Co. He farmed in lieu of owing two productive companies.
Burges's passion was playing and singing in a Country Music Band.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lesel H. and Annie Mae Johnson.
He was survived by wife, Wanda Green Johnson; sisters, Dimple Boyd and Helen England and husband Bransford; nephews, Flavey Miller and Lenton Miller, Joe England, Gerald England, and H. L. England; one great niece and three great nephews; and best friend, Edith Martin. Also surviving are step children, Tim West and wife Melody, Tina Hopkins and husband Wayne, and David Holt and wife Julie along with nine step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Thurman Funeral Home at 5 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 8, 2016 at Thurman Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., officiating will be Bro. Frank Randolph. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
