Betty Louise Dycus Farley, age 68, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at White County Community Hospital from amyloidosis, a rare blood disease. She was born February 6, 1942, in White County to James Monroe and Goldie Marie Harris Dycus, who preceded her in death. Betty taught in the White County School System for 31 years and was a member of Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include son, Brent Farley and wife Alex; daughter, Marla Murray and husband Montuka; and daughter, Marsha Farley, all of Sparta. She is also survived by grandchildren, Gabriella and Austin Farley and Malik and Mia Murray; sisters, Gwen Johnson and husband Roy; Brenda Anderson and husband Billy; brother, Charles Dycus and wife Paulette, all of Sparta. Nieces and nephews Jongee Jarvis, Luke Dycus, Wendy Boruff, and Natalee Anderson also survive, as well as a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Betty, also known as "Mother," was a graduate of White County High School where she was a cheerleader and avid Warrior fan. After becoming a wife and mother, she earned three college degrees in education and became a teacher. Her love for her profession and passion for teaching have impacted numerous students throughout White County. She enjoyed her family, especially her four grandchildren. She was a huge fan of all sports, with Sparta Warriors and Vanderbilt Commodores at the top of the list. Church, trips with family, fashion, jewelry, scarves, shopping, music, TV -- these defined who "Mother" was.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Central Church of Christ at 2:00 P.M. Officiating will be Bro. Don Burns. Speakers will be Craig Lynn, Kurt Dronebarger, and Kathryn Adcock. Interment will follow at the Frasiers Chapel Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Luke Dycus, Rhett Rowland, Kurt Dronebarger, Craig Lynn, Jimmy Maynard, and Jordan Armstrong, with Eric Mitchell and Mason Rowland serving as honorary pall bearers.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Central Church of Christ from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Betty Farley Memorial Scholarship fund at First National Bank.
Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, Tennessee, is in charge of the arrangements.
